Short biography

She made her debut as a soloist at the age of 12 with the Camerata Kyiv State Orchestra, performing J.S. Bach’s Violin Concerto in E major. This was followed by further appearances as a soloist with various orchestras, including the Kyiv Philharmonic, the Plovdiv Symphony Orchestra (BU), the ZHdK Strings and the Zurich Orchestra Society. She has also won prizes at competitions such as the Academic Prize for Contemporary Music (Kyiv) in 2002, the ‘Ukrainian Youth in Europe’ competition in 2007, the ‘Nicati de Luze’ competition (Switzerland) in 2010, in 2011 at the Youth Music Competition in Bischofszell, as well as scholarship awards such as a scholarship from the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation in 2010, a scholarship from the LYRA and Elsy Meyer Foundations in 2009, and a scholarship from the Yehudi Menuhin ‘Live Music Now’ organisation in 2011, which enabled her to give many concerts throughout Switzerland.

She began her training in Kyiv at the Lyssenko Music School in E. Stepanova’s violin class, where she also passed her music A-levels with distinction. She studied at the Zurich University of the Arts under Prof. Rudolf Koelman and in Graz under Prof. Yair Kless. She also attended masterclasses with Igor Ozim, Eduard Grach, Shmuel Ashkenazy, Mauricio Fuks and Giuliano Carmignola. She completed her Bachelor’s degree with distinction in 2009 and her Master of Performance in 2011, before finally obtaining her soloist’s diploma at the ZHdK in 2014.

Kateryna Timokhina has already gained a great deal of experience in orchestras as a concertmaster, for example on the 2006 European tour with the Animato Foundation Orchestra, and on the 2008 and 2009 Swiss tours of the Aargau Youth Symphony Orchestra, during which she served as concertmaster in 2009; in 2010 at the Archipel Festival for New Music in Geneva as concertmaster and soloist; and at the orchestra academy led by David Zinman and Sir Simon Rattle. She was a member of the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie in Konstanz from 2013 to 2015.

She performs regularly as a soloist, chamber musician and event violinist in various ensembles around the world and is the founder of the Swiss Violin Studio.

Kateryna has performed at joint events with Swiss personalities such as Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer, Röbi Koller, Roger Federer, Crista Rigozzi, Christoph Walter and the cabaret duo Divertimento.
